May 11, 2018 - At 4:14 p.m. EDT, after a scrub on the previous day, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launches the Bangabandhu 1 communications satellite for the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission from LC-39A, Kennedy Space Center. The spacecraft will provide broadcasting and telecommunication services across Bangladesh and neighboring countries.

This is the first launch of the upgraded Block 5 version of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. Following stage separation, Falcon 9’s first stage successfully landed on “Of Course I Still Love You,” SpaceX’s droneship stationed several hundred miles offshore in the Atlantic Ocean.

Launch photos taken from south Merritt Island, a distance of 18 miles.
