August 14, 2016 - A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launches from SLC-40, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station with the JCSAT 16 communications satellite for Tokyo-based SKY Perfect JSAT Corp.
JCSAT 16 will be a backup satellite for Ku-band and Ka-band communications services over the Japanese market.
Launch photos taken from the Exploration Tower area at the port - about 12.5 miles from launch pad.
After successfully landing at sea on the SpaceX drone ship, the Falcon 9 first stage will return to Port Canaveral to begin it's inspection and testing for possible reuse.
