27 September 2007 - After a 14 minute delay due to a boat in the Launch Hazard Area, a Delta 2 rocket blasts off from Cape Canaveral's launch pad 17B at 7:34 a.m. EST with NASA's Dawn spacecraft.

From the Dawn Mission Fact Book: "The Dawn spacecraft will make an eight-year journey to the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter in an effort to significantly increase our understanding of the conditions and processes acting at the solar system’s earliest epoch by examining the geophysical properties of the asteroid Vesta and dwarf planet Ceres."
